In this project, I sought to bring colour and life to a grey and tired area of Rotterdam. In collaboration with the designers of Rotterdam Daken Dagen, we pursued in speculating a scenario for the rooftop of Zuidplein Shopping Centre. My idea is based on the power of community, and the need of a free space to bring that community together, so I decided to ask the existing community, what would they like to do on this rooftop. This survey resulted in the need of a meeting place for the community, where they can come together to enjoy a meal or a drink, and attend events. I sought to bring them their needs, with a little extra suggestions of my own, following my visit, I thought the area would be interested in a community garden, where people can come together during the day, to work towards a common goal, and have the next generation learn, due to the over-urbanisation of the area, while an art gallery would empower local artists to make their voices heard, through an open air exhibition.
